Amazing Scale October 9, 2009 MC (New York) Very awesome scale. I love the large glass platform.
My Old Scale:
I used to own a taylor scale (well I still own it but will probably never use it again!). That scale was actually pretty horrible. In my tests I would weigh myself, pick up a large stuff animal, weigh myself again and be the same weight. After dinner was the same weight as before dinner. In order to change the weight I would add around 3-5 pounds (hold books or other things) before it showed a change. Then I would put the extra weight down and re-weight and it would be significantly different. (probably around half a pound or more). The platform was not glass, it sort of had this plastic thing don't know how to describe it properly. But overtime the thing shifted upwards probably from me stepping on off it! It was held on by some sort of glue and when it moved it left glue residue with attracted dust and made my scale look disgusting and dirty. (Which is why I love the glass platform, I'm imagining it will be a breeze to clean). The taylor scale is now obsolete because every time I step on it it just says error. Once in a blue moon it'll come back but for the most part it just says error. (owned it for a year or two). A huge pain with the taylor was that even if i shifted slightly (like scratch my nose) it'll come up as error. I had to be absolutely still!
The EatSmart Scale:
This scale is great. The readings are so fast, no real need to wait at all. If I move while on the scale it just waits till I'm still again and gives me my reading promptly! The scale is very large but it's no problem for me because I have the room for it. Personally I like how large it is because I think the whole glass looks very pretty. The backlight is a nice blue with black digital numbers. It's easy on my eyes in the dark and the display is large enough so I can see without my glasses (i'm only about 150-160 in each eye though).
A couple of tests:
I wanted to see how much of a weight difference this scale can detect so I did a couple of tests. I weighed myself clothed, then took off my sweater and weighed myself again. The weight drop was about .8 pounds. I think this might just be because this was the very first reading on the scale. I just held the sweater and weighed myself again and did not find any weight change at all from the scale.
I weighed myself before dinner and after and there was a difference of also about .8 pounds. This has been consistent weighing after weighing.
Another test with holding a bunch of pieces of clothing. I tried a shirt, some underwear, and socks (just finished laundry). There was no change. So I added the sweater I mentioned before and the weighing jumped 1 pound. Removing the sweater shirt and underwear (leaving just the socks with me). It dropped some weight but didn't go back to my original weight. So then I put the socks down too. The weight remained the same, about .2 higher than the original weight. So I weighed again and still the same +.2 I even waited for it to turn off and turned it back on and still +.2 To get back to the original weight I had to add more weight and put it all down at once. (Also tried other combinations and it has been able to detect changes of .6lbs also)
All in all I think it's not 100% because it's hard to detect small changes in weight but it is still pretty good at noting changes in weight. It is at least more reliable than the taylor because this will eventually bring me back to the original weight whereas the taylor had different readings every time and I had to guess an approximate.
Pros:
Quick readings & startup (once I am able to tap it right)
Nice backlight that is easy to read.
Fairly Consistent readings (+/-.2 if you weigh- add weight- then reweigh, but one after another without any changes is always the same)
Uses standard AAA batteries, easy to find in any store unlike the cell batteries
Cons:
Only problem I'm having so far is turning it on. I have to tap quite a few times before I can get it on. I use quick taps at various strengths but still takes a while. Long(er) taps do not seem to work.
Delivery:
Waiting for it to ship out took about 2-3 days and estimate arrival date was about 5 days after it shipped, but it arrived 2 days early! So overall not a long wait at all. Came in a giant shipping box with lots of air bag padding.
Eat Smart Digital Bathroom Scale October 8, 2009 Babs (Philadelphia, PA USA) EatSmart Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and Oversize Platform
I recently purchased the smart scale from Amazon because my old scale of 15 years went kerplunk. I am very satisfied with this scale because it is consistent in its measuring, very easy to read, even without my much needed glasses, quick and attractive. The price was excellent and it gives you the options of weighing in pounds, kilograms or stones (which I learned about on a British T.V. program). I would certainly recommend this scale to family and friends.
All-around nice scale! October 8, 2009 A. Crivello This is a good-lookin', good-workin' scale! The LCD screen is very legible and seems to be pretty accurate. It doesn't wake up when I "tap" it in the center however, but by gently tapping it against the floor it'll set itself to zero. I'm happy I got it AND happy about the price.
digital scale October 8, 2009 Nancy J. Schmall (upstate NY) A necessary evil. Started a weight loss program and needed a scale that I could rely on. This scale is easy to keep clean, accurate, and definitely easy to read. Beside being the right price, I'm glad I chose the EatSmart. Now if I could only make it move downward faster!
Versatile and Reliable! October 8, 2009 M. Curtis (APO, AE) This scale was a great choice - wonderful to be able to use it without worrying about turning the light on. The backlight is bright and easy to see no matter the condition. The scale is stylish and looks great wherever it is placed. The display is large and easy to read. The most important thing about a scale is how well it weighs, and this one is no slouch! The scale is consistent and accurate. I've been using it in a sandy environment - it is tremendously easy to clean and due to its construction, the sand does not bother the scale at all - don't get me wrong, it is not being used IN the sand, just near the entrance where sand gets tracked in! I was excited when the scale arrived, and have been excited to use it over the last couple of weeks. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone... It is a great deal for the money!
